Home Remedies for Nose Bleeding - Causes, Symptoms & Cures

  • Nose bleeding is a common ailment that is found in children and adults alike.
  • It is mainly the result of the vulnerability of the nose lining that contains various tiny blood vessels, which tend to bleed easily.
  • There are various reasons or causes of nose bleeding, such as injury to the nose, infection of the mucous membrane, dryness, cold, nose picking and also a sudden impact or blow to the nose.
  • Still, there may be instances where nosebleed occurs without any specific cause.
  • Most of the nose bleeding occurs in the front part of the nose and can be stopped easily.
  • In case the bleeding takes place internally, you need to consult a doctor. Given below are some of the home remedies for treating nose bleed, naturally.
Home Remedy For Nose Bleed
  • Put a drop or two of lemon juice in the nostril that is bleeding. This is an effective way to stop nose bleed.
  • Saline water serves as a good natural remedy for treating nose bleed. For this, put a pinch of salt in half a glass of water and spray it inside the nose.
  • Dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply it on the bleeding nose. It helps the blood to congeal and will bring the bleeding to a stop.
  • When nosebleed occurs, you need to make sure that the surroundings are not dry. Humidify the air with a good air humidifier. This would prevent the nose from working exceedingly hard, thereby preventing bleeding.
  • Take 500 to 1,000 milligrams of each four times daily for two days after a nosebleed. Then take 500 milligrams of each twice a day for at least one month.
  • Vitamin K helps the blood to clot more efficiently. If you suffer from recurring nosebleeds, take 25 micrograms once or twice daily for one month.
  • Another way to stop a nosebleed is to wet a bit of cotton or plain sterile gauze with white vinegar and place it in your nose. Leave it in place for at least ten minutes. The acid of the vinegar will gently cauterize the inside of the nose and stop the bleeding.
  • In a pint of water, add a tsp of goldenseal. Put the solution in a pan and place it on flame. Once the first boil comes, turn off the flame and let the decoction settle down. When it gets cool, snuff some into the nostrils. Repeat this a few times a day.
  • Apply an ice pack on the exterior of the nose. This is an easy and effective way to cure nose bleeding.
  • Placing a wet towel on the head has been found to be beneficial in curing nose bleeding.
How to Stop a Nose Bleed
  • Calmly sit down in an upright position, not back in the chair. This will help to keep blood from going down the back of your throat. Breathe through your mouth.
  • Tilt your head forward (not backward).
  • Place your thumb and forefinger on either side of the bridge of your nose and pinch the soft part of your nose firmly for ten minutes without releasing. Apply pressure firmly enough to slow bleeding, but not so strongly as to cause discomfort. Pressure decreases the blood flow through the affected area, slowing bleeding. You can also place a cold compress on the bridge of your nose. This has not been proven to be effective but seems to help constrict the local blood vessels.
  • After ten minutes, release the nostrils slowly and check to see if the bleeding has stopped. Avoid touching or blowing your nose. If the bleeding has not stopped, apply pressure for another ten-minute period.
  • If your nose is still bleeding steadily after twenty minutes of pressure, call your health-care provider.
